When something seems too good to be true... most times it is too good to be true.
A lesson in human nature learned from the WSO forum. The marketer was more of an action taker than a teacher, but eventually he launched his first IM product. It was a 90 day coaching program comprehensive and covering everything. Or so he said...
To make the long story short: he was bluffing (knowingly or not), and the buyers were scammed.
Let's put the best face on this and think that:
- He genuinely wanted to help his buyers succeed.
- He was honest and revealed truth about succeeding in IM.
- He covered the fundamentals needed and the hard work involved.
- He showed them what works if they put in the required effort and take action.
Apparently where he failed is in the execution. He didn’t prequalify well enough and didn’t take into account how much work he would have to do to help the majority of his buyers put the system into practice.
Ok, this is what I understood of the situation...
On one side, we have a self proclaimed "geek" (very cute by the way), who made a couple (or more) home runs and thinks he "owns it"...
On the other side, we have newbies and not so newbies who still haven't lost all IM virginity and mastered the process all the way through...
Our cute geek thinks that because he can do it... he can teach it.
Our IM virgins think that because he is a geek, he will solve their "tech issues" or, maybe, go from mentor to outsourcer and do the job "for them" if they can't by themselves...
After all, he promised to hold hands... how sweet...
Our cute geek as a newbie teacher offered "full support" without:
- limiting the seats to the party
- training a support team
- pre screening the subjects to be sure they had the minimal required knowledge
- betatesting the plan
Launched the plan, and he found out that:
The day didn't have enough hours to hold hands with everybody (that is why monogamy exists, as boring as it is...).
They came with the most stupid tech questions... how can they have problems with THAT?
It didn't matter how many times he explained it, some just didn't get it...
And since they paid for mentoring...
they assumed it was "his" job to put the information in "their" heads...
So, our cute geek got a nervous attack and our IM virgins didn't get rid of their virginity.
Is it like that?
Ok, these are my 2 cents if (and only if) all these hypothesis are true...
Cutie... what you said you learned is not "the" lesson... do your homework and you will really learn about business and get out of this on your two feet. But only after you find out what "you" did wrong and make sure the next mistake will be different... and the people that suffered from your "newbie" mistake know it too.
For those who were harmed emotionally and economically by this situation, I can only tell you this:
Every sales letter needs to pass a reality check: even if he was everything he said and was completely honest... that is a job for a team, not for only one person. He had no way to make it work.
This was a sad case of lack of homework, footwork, and criteria... cute guy though...

Are you a YouTube addict? Do you often wonder where to find the songs, books games you see featured there?
Well, Google read your mind. Soon, YouTube videos will feature *buy it now* links. Only available in the US right now. But look out world! They intend to expand.
Youtube adding a marketplace heats up my imagination.
Much speculation on whether the *partners* will include everyone one not just the big corporations. It’s a great way to monetize the free content and if it becomes available to small affiliates it could be what one mareketer called the *incentive of the century*
“Makes me laugh. One day the record labels are suing YouTube, the next they are climbing into bed with them.”
Oh honey... this is how life is!
Aren't reconciliations the best part of any relationship?
I think it is brilliant from Google... of course, they are clever boys and have some tendency to play all the positions. Mmmm nice...
Another marketer pointed out that this is a prime example of Google innovation. The tougher the economic climate the more he expects to see them run laps around their competition.
Well... if they open it up for everyone... it will be good to product developers and not so good for affiliates. There seem to be some consistency in Google hitting affiliate marketing with not much value added.
The opinion was offered that it could possibly be a revolution for all. If Google allows a re-direct URL like they do with Adwords it opens the door to many opportunities.
Everyone’s imagination seems to have caught fire over this.

Hmmmm…most interesting. A marketer is looking for a *copywriter* for a high level assignment that may become a monthly job. He didn’t disclose many details and had few replies.
Some didn’t reply because of the lack of details…others didn’t reply because he hit one of the IM blind spots.
Is it possible that you need a writer and not a copywriter?
The word copywriter is used specifically for someone writing sales letters, when you mention article directories, well, it looks like you are looking for a writer...
For a well written sales letter, $3K (or more) is standard... I like the style of Eric Louviere, now he is beyond copywriting for what I heard... but maybe he has someone.
We think of copywriters as sales page writers. He was looking for an accomplished article writer. OOPS…
One day I was in Spain, and they told me a very interesting tale about how people from Spain and Chile used the same words for very different purposes... It was a joke about the word "pico", what the dictionary translates as "beak", and a Chilean lady getting very offended.
Bottom line... be careful about the way you use that word in Chile, and use the words to help real communication when you are in a specific community.

Ahhhh … this is sad and a *heads up* warning for anyone (isn’t everyone?) planning on going full time. A guy left the job before having everything in place, and now is having a hard time. Needs cash flow fast to make it work. Nothing to laugh about, he has a kid. Tried to help…
A few more helpful planning suggestions and rescue techniques.
Membership sites-offer a $1 trial if they sign up now! Residual monthly income is going to be the best way to go. The biggest problem with going full time is your income isn’t always consistent. But your bills keep coming.
How about other skills you might have?? Is there anything in your *job* you can sell as a service?
Lots of great encouraging words being offered like spend your time on production and the things that make money first. There will be plenty of time to work the dream plan after your bills are being paid.
And, focus and stay calm: often the things we worry about never happen. Your mindset plays a huge role in success.
I see this pretty much every day... and there are cases even worse. This is a business, it needs planning, strategy, skills, knowledge and entrepreneur spirit...
It is also true you can be up and making money in a matter of days, that the initial budget can be as low as zero... but the training, the learning curve, the trial and error until you get it the way it works for you... that takes time. To gain experience takes time.

Interesting question today… Why should I buy your product? We all started this journey with our egos firmly in place. At that time, we’d answer that question because my product is the best product for ___________. Fill in the blank with your niche or service.
It takes awhile and usually quite a few mistakes before the market teaches us that our buyers could care less about whether we or our product is the best for whatever. What they care about is WITFM. (What’s in It for Me?)
So, you can say it in many ways. But the correct answer will be a variation on this…My products are the best solution to your problems. Give them a thumbnail sketch of your benefits, USP, and then send them to your testimonials for social proof.
This lil marketing insight will explode your conversions from your ads, sales copy, article resource boxes and dramatically increase your sales.
... benefits and not features...
of course...
How do i do it? Well I have it easier...
I’ve come full circle in the years on line…
My buyers buy just because I sell... |
