Losing the Internet Marketing virginity: fight that blocker baby PDF Print E-mail
Written by Laura Miller
Blockers are annoying lil bugs. They appear in the most unlikely places, and if we don’t name them… they don’t disappear.

The process of losing your Internet Marketing virginity includes fighting and conquering more than one blocker. And, it will be different for each person, depending on what is completely new, what is similar to what they know, their self esteem… and who knows what else…

Don’t mistake a blocker with simply not knowing how to do it. The blocker appears when you already know you can get it done, but you never actually did it before.

Apprentice Voyeur is up, click here to check it out.The first step to remove a blocker is to be aware of the way they feel. I know I know… you think I’m smoking or something. Well… I don’t smoke, never have, never will.

It feels slightly different in each person, but the main description is an urge to be somewhere else, or doing something else… a lil anxiety attack. And in some cases, a feeling of trying to move a heavy weight that doesn’t let you move forward.

It is also common to make mistakes, even mistakes that force us to start all over again in a funny version of the Sisyphus Myth.

Thank goodness… we didn’t make any Greek god mad… so we can get away with it.

Once you identify the feeling, it is interesting to have a lil journal and write the blockers down, so you can cross them off one by one. It feels so good to cross the lil bastards out!

This is what happens… once you identify it and name it, you put the “thing” outside of you, and you can fight it… If you don’t name it, you can’t battle it because it is too close, and you don’t even see it.

Have you ever seen a boxing match? The way tiny fighters win over taller fighters is to “break the distance”, they get so close that the big guy is defenseless… then they hit.

To identify it is the first step, not the last one. The second thing to do is to take care of that anxiety… once it is fired, you need to treat it. You can’t just act as if nothing happened unless you are highly trained in self control. And you know what? Even then, it isn’t worth it. It can backfire later.

Now, here is the trick: most of the natural reactions that appear to treat the anxiety attack will lead us away from the target. Some of these things are:

  • Eat
  • Drink
  • Smoke
  • Play video games
  • Read your spam folder just in case…
  • Read IM letters…
  • Go to Youtube and watch ugly videos

Stay away from them!!!

Choose to do something that will make you feel physically, emotionally, intellectually or spiritually better during and after doing it…

Examples of things I like to do:

  • Sing
  • Dance
  • Run
  • Drink water
  • Write
  • Read fantasy
  • Party
  • Have a shower
You can borrow my list or do your own.

Now, after you recouped… get your butt back in there and JUST DO IT!

Funny thing… after you lift a blocker, it will not bug you again. That particular process will become part of your known territory, and you will do the task like you do anything else (you still might not like it, though).
